    The dream of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat will be realised only through the effective implementation of National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020), with a special focus on skill development and entrepreneurship, said Haryana Governor-Chancellor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya while speaking as Chief Guest at Teachers’ Day function at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, on Sunday. He said the need of the hour is effective implementation of NEP-2020 in universities, colleges and schools as well.

    Governor-Chancellor Shri Dattatraya also paid rich tributes to noted scholar, teacher and former President of India Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on whose birthday Teachers’ Day is observed in the country. He said that inspiring teachers lay the foundation of student’s life and hence they should take care of students the way a mother brings up her children with dedication.

    Shri Dattatraya said that teachers must not only address the academic needs of the students, but also focus on their character and confidence-building. He remembered with reverence his Physics Teacher late Shri Ramaiha and his Telugu teacher Sheshcharya on this occasion. They have left an impact on the hearts of their students including me, said Shri Dattatraya.

    The Governor-Chancellor appreciated the developmental strides of MDU in various spheres, and wished the team MDU success in their future endeavours. He also felicitated seven teachers and two university functionaries – Prof AK Rajan, Prof Renu Chugh, Prof Rishi Chaudhary, Prof Ranbir Singh Gulia, Prof Randeep Rana, Dr KK Sharma, Dr SS Gill, Dr DS Dhull and Dr Jagbir Rathee for their contributions to the university in the field of academics, research, outreach, sports and cultural spheres.

    Earlier, MDU Vice Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh delivered the welcome address. He extended greetings to the teaching community on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. He lauded the efforts of MDU’s teaching community, especially during the corona pandemic period. MDU Registrar Prof Gulshan Lal Taneja proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Divya Malhan, Associate Professor, IMSAR, conducted the proceedings of Teachers’ Day programme.
