Describing him as a true nationalist, Shri Dattatraya said that Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan was courageous and determined to serve the motherland with an utmost sense of dedication and made the supreme sacrifice for the country. The Governor said that Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan, who sacrificed his life for the country at the age of 27, became a role model for the youth and his martyrdom strengthened the spirit of patriotism in the country. He said that the present young generation should also work hard to strengthen the cause of national unity and society by taking inspiration from the lives of those who sacrificed their lives for the country. Shri Dattatraya said that today the country is celebrating the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in which everyone should participate and remember brave freedom fighters who were martyred for the sake of the motherland. Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan was born on 22 October 1900 in Shahjahanpur. He formed the Hindustan Republican Association with the help of like-minded freedom fighters and fought against the British government. He was hanged on 19 December 1927 in Faizabad jail.
