    Chandigarh, January 25,: Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya has congratulated the people of the state on the occasion of National Voters’ Day and said that all of us should continue contributing to strengthen democracy in our country.

    Highlighting the importance of ‘National Voters’ Day’, Governor Shri Dattatraya said that the Election Commission of India was constituted on 25 January 1950, a day before the Indian Constitution came into force in the country. Keeping in view the participation of the people in a republic, the formation of the Election Commission was very important.

    He said that the Government of India started celebrating ’25 January’ as ‘National Voters’ Day’ on the day of the establishment of the Election Commission from the year 2011 and to increase the participation of the people in every election. Since 2011, National Voters’ Day has been celebrated every year on 25 January.

    He has appealed to participate in the voting process. We must use our vote wisely in the interest of the country. The youth above the age of 18 years should get their name registered in the voter list so that they can use their vote in the formation of the government.
