    Esteemed Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen!

    Greetings to all of you!

It is a pleasure for me to join this cultural evening organized by the Office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit), Punjab. It is heartening to see that this department not only fulfils its official responsibilities with dedication but also promotes harmony and team spirit through cultural activities, reflecting a healthy balance between professional and personal life.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India is a pillar of our democracy. Beyond monitoring public expenditure, it ensures transparency, accountability, and efficient use of resources entrusted by citizens.
Audit today is not limited to presenting financial accounts. It evaluates government policies and programmes to assess whether public resources are used optimally and whether intended outcomes are being achieved. When government departments respond earnestly to audit findings, transparency and governance improve significantly.
    Dear All
Public trust is the foundation of any democracy. This trust is protected when public resources are used wisely and officials act responsibly.
Audit serves as this protective shield. It verifies the correct use of funds, identifies weaknesses, exposes irregularities, and recommends improvements. Performance audits further assess whether government spending is creating real impact for citizens.
In an era of rapid information flow, the role of the CAG has become even more critical. Technology-driven audits and impartial reporting strengthen transparency and reinforce public confidence in government functioning.
Transparency, however, is not just a process. It is a culture that every officer must uphold. Audit should be seen not as criticism but as an opportunity to learn and improve. Accountability is a shared responsibility and departments must respond to audit recommendations with sincerity.
    Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am of firm opinion that audit is a continuous process that supports better governance, improved service delivery, and stronger public trust. I urge all departments to approach audits with openness and seriousness so that we can build a system that is transparent, efficient and people-centric.
Last but not the least, cultural programmes like today’s hold special importance. They relieve stress, strengthen camaraderie and reconnect us with our roots. Vibrant culture of Punjab and Haryana, their music, dance and traditions reminds us to live with joy, unity and resilience.

The teachings of our Gurus and saints further enrich this land with values of compassion and equality. Let us preserve this heritage while striving for development. I extend my best wishes to all and hope this evening remains memorable.
    Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!
