Universities must achieve excellence in education quality and student welfare – Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh
Chandigarh, Sept 25 – A meeting of Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of all state universities was held today at Raj Bhavan under the chairmanship of Haryana Governor Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh.
The Governor appreciated the suggestions and discussions presented by the Vice-Chancellors and Registrars, describing them as highly valuable. He stated that the state government remains fully committed to the improvement and development of the higher education sector. The Governor also urged universities to explore more avenues for generating resources internally; reaching out to alumni, industry for CSR funds, and prepare a concrete action plan for the full implementation of the new National Education Policy.
Expressing confidence in the outcomes of the meeting, he said that by seriously addressing the issues raised, the state’s universities would achieve significant progress in the areas of education quality, infrastructure, and student welfare.

Co-chairing the meeting, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that all universities should take concrete initiatives to connect students with startups, enabling youth to become self-reliant and entrepreneurial—job creators rather than merely job seekers. He further urged universities to establish effective coordination with industrial units and organize regular job fairs, ensuring that students have access to better employment opportunities immediately after completing their studies.
The Chief Minister said that Haryana has now established a distinct identity as an industrial hub. To ensure that this development directly benefits the youth, he encouraged universities to actively pursue as many Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) as possible with leading industries and multinational companies.

The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi has set a goal of making India a developed nation by 2047. Urging universities to take a leading role in realizing this vision, he called upon them to provide employment-oriented education to the youth and prepare them as skilled, competent, and visionary human resources, ensuring that Haryana contributes significantly to this national objective.
He also emphasized the importance of campus security, adding that the entry of anti-social elements must be strictly prevented. Chief Minister urged all Vice-Chancellors to ensure that students stay away from social evils such as drug abuse. He highlighted that the state government’s large-scale campaign to make youth drug-free has already produced positive results.
The Chief Minister further stated that universities should prioritize sports alongside employment-oriented education, enabling youth to pursue careers in sports and bring glory to the state and the nation. He urged all universities to actively work towards self-reliance by developing their own resources.
Expressing confidence in the outcomes of the two-day meeting, he said it would help to improve university rankings, further enhance the quality of education, and empower the youth of Haryana to make significant contributions to nation-building.
