Chandigarh, January 12, Paying floral tributes to Swami Vivekananda on his jayanti today at Raj Bhavan, Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya said that he was a great monk, yogi and the champion of Indian civilization and culture.
He was the first Hindu saint, who gave a clarion call for humanity, tolerance, and hoisted the flag of Indian culture overseas, said Shri Dattatraya, adding Swami ji had great expectations from the youths of the country.
“His birth anniversary is also celebrated as the National Youth Day. He knew youths are the future of the nation. That is why he called upon them to ‘Arise! Awake! And stop not till the goal is reached,” said Shri Dattatraya.
The Haryana Governor said Swami Ji analyzed the dangers posed by meaningless and sectarian conflicts and believed that the true essence of religion was the common good. He was of the firm opinion that the service to mankind should be selfless as service to mankind was service to God, said Shri Dattatraya.
Stating that Swami Ji worked tirelessly for betterment of society, poor and needy by dedicating his life for the country, Shri Dattatraya said that what Swami ji wanted from our youths were ‘muscles of iron’ and ‘nerves of steel’ so that a strong and vibrant India is made.
Shri Dattatraya said the teachings of Swami Vivekananda are timeless and relevant for all ages to come. In his address to the World Parliament of Religions, Chicago in 1893, Swami Ji dwelt upon the idea of tolerance and universal acceptance. Our egalitarian Constitution is the best tool we have to realize the dream of Swami Ji by ensuring the common good irrespective of one’s caste or religion.
The youth force of the country must enhance their skills in all fields of life by making the most of initiatives of Central and state governments. By tapping their talent and energy, we can build an Atma Nirbhar Bharat, which will be a true tribute to Swami Ji, said Shri Dattatraya.
