    Chandigarh, February 3, : Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya has said that there will be more transparency in the functioning of Power Department if digital facilities to consumers related to billing, meter reading and applying for new electricity connections are provided.
    Shri Dattatraya, while interacting with Haryana Power Minister Shri Ranjit Singh, who had made a courtesy call on him at Raj Bhavan, said electricity is the cornerstone of development of any state. It is the backbone of agriculture, automobile and manufacturing sectors, he said.
    He also stressed the need for the promotion of renewable and green energy in agriculture and domestic sectors. He said that benefits under various schemes of NABARD and state government should be utilized to promote the use of solar pumps and biomass. Shri Dattatraya said that the ‘Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon’ scheme launched in the state for rural areas is proving a boon for the villagers.
    Power Minister Shri Ranjit Singh informed that under the ‘Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon’ scheme, 80 per cent villages of the state are getting 24 hours electricity. He said that the state is completely self-sufficient in the matter of electricity.
    Power Minister Shri Ranjit Singh said that 10 lakh smart meters are being installed soon to check the theft of electricity in the state. He said that in order to promote digitization, an amount of Rs 5 lakh is being given to the panchayats of those villages where 90 per cent or more of the bills are being paid in digital form.
    He informed that solar power projects are being set up to promote solar energy and green energy in the state. Haryana is also a leading state of the country in the field of solar pump installation. Shri Singh said that most of the activities and services related to electricity have been digitized in the state due to which the power line-loss in the state has come down to 13 per cent.
