    Governor lauds contributions of Income Tax Department in country’s development

    Chandigarh, July 24, 2024: Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya on Wednesday lauded the contributions of the Income Tax Department in the country’s all round development.

    Shri Dattatraya, who was speaking as the Chief Guest at the 165th Income Tax Day celebration organized by the Income Tax Department, North West Region, Chandigarh, at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector 43, here, underscored the historical significance of the Income Tax Day.

    He emphasized the importance of tax compliance and awareness among citizens and highlighted that the North West Region contributes significantly to the national revenue through income tax.

    He also recognized and felicitated the top taxpayers from the region, applauding their contributions to the nation’s development.

    Smt Amrapalli Das, the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr.CCIT), North West Region (NWR), Chandigarh, delivered the opening address. She highlighted the remarkable growth in direct tax collections and emphasized the pivotal role of income tax in nation-building.

    She noted the significant increase in direct tax revenues from ₹100 crore in 1947-48 to over ₹19 lakh crore in 2023-24. She praised the efforts of the Income Tax Department in simplifying tax laws, enhancing taxpayer services, and leveraging technology for efficient tax collection.

    Top taxpayers were felicitated for their contributions, including Mathew Job, an individual top taxpayer with gross tax payable over Rs 10 lakh; Dhanoa Exports, a top taxpayer among newly established domestic manufacturing companies; Anand Tayal, an individual top taxpayer with gross tax payable less than Rs 10 Lakhs; and Kailash Goenka, a super senior citizen top taxpayer.

    The celebration concluded with the presentation of a memento to Shri Dattatraya, a group photograph session with women officers and officials as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
