    Chandigarh, June 9, 2022: Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya has extended his hearty congratulations and best wishes to winners and participants of the ‘Khelo India Youth Games-2021, which are going on successfully in Panchkula. He has extended special congratulations to the players of Haryana for performing exceedingly well in the games. Shri Dattatraya said that this has been possible only because of Haryana’s new Sports Policy and better infrastructure.
    Shri Dattatraya was talking to Dr Mahavir Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, who came to meet him at Raj Bhavan on Thursday. Dr Mahavir Singh apprised Shri Dattatraya about the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games-2021. He was accompanied by Shri Pankaj Nain, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
    The Governor said that sports help youth develop the spirit of positive competition to move forward in their lives and promote sports culture in the country. It is because of sports that the youth of Haryana has a significant presence in India’s defence forces though the state accounts for only two and a half per cent of the country’s total population.
    The Governor said that players of Haryana have done quite well in international games including Olympics and have brought several medals to the country. He said that a provision of Rs 600 crore has been made in this year’s annual budget to promote sports in the state. He said that a cash reward of Rs 100 crore in a year to talented sportspersons shows the commitment of the state government towards sports. He also congratulated the government for this.
    Dr Mahavir Singh, while giving an update about the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games-202, said that over 8000 players are participating in 25 sports events. He said that 17 Olympic sports and eight regional and traditional sports have been included in the Khelo India Youth Games. The regional and traditional sports include Gatka, Handball, Kabaddi, Kalaripayattu, Kho-Kho, Malkhamb, Thanga and Yoga.
    Shri Singh said that better arrangements have been made for the players. In order to successfully organize the Games, world-class sports infrastructure has been developed in the state with an amount of Rs 130 crore. Shri Pankaj Nain presented the mascot of the Games ‘Dhakad’ to Shri Dattatraya.
