Hon’ble Governor appreciates Haryana Red Cross for swift relief efforts during the recent floods

Chandigarh, October 8: Hon’ble Haryana Governor and President of the Indian Red Cross Society (Haryana State Branch), Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh on Wednesday commended the State Branch for its prompt and coordinated disaster-response and relief efforts during recent flood and rain emergencies.
Addressing a review meeting at Raj Bhavan today, the Governor said the State Red Cross had demonstrated exemplary preparedness by quickly dispatching relief consignments to affected districts.
“The fact that relief consignments were quickly prepared and flagged off from Raj Bhavan to flood- and rain-affected districts, a direct demonstration of preparedness turning into action—shows that when organisation meets compassion, lives are saved and suffering is eased,” observed Prof Ghosh.
Shri DK Behera, Secretary to Governor, conducted the proceedings of the meeting and also shared inputs and insights for better functioning of the Haryana State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society.
The Governor expressed gratitude to all officials and volunteers for their “conscientious work and thoughtful proposals,” adding that the review had been both “instructive and heartening.”
Emphasising that the Red Cross movement continues to embody the spirit of local readiness and national scale, Prof Ghosh said its core services—disaster response, blood services, first-aid training, community health outreach, and care for the vulnerable—remain as relevant as ever.
“But relevance alone is not enough,” he said. “We must constantly modernise our methods. I urge the Society to continue investing in training for volunteers and staff, to upgrade logistics and stock management, and to embrace simple digital tools that improve speed, traceability, and coordination during emergencies.”
On the health front, Prof Ghosh underlined the need for frequent blood-donation camps, mobile units, and awareness campaigns, especially targeting rural areas and donor retention. He assured that Raj Bhavan would continue to support such drives in spirit and through active collaboration.
The Governor also outlined practical steps for the Society’s immediate focus such as preparing a short-term action plan for scaling volunteer training, and a medium-term roadmap for improving logistics and digital coordination.
During the review meeting, Vice Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana State Branch, Shri Ankush Miglani welcomed all participants. He also emphasized the need to enroll more life members and to further expand the outreach and publicity of Red Cross activities.
General Secretary Shri Mahesh Joshi expressed gratitude to all participants of the review meeting and urged the District Secretaries to ensure that all Red Cross activities are conducted strictly in accordance with prescribed rules and procedures so that no individual faces any inconvenience.
On this occasion, officers from the State Headquarters, all District Red Cross Secretaries, and officials from Haryana Raj Bhavan were present.
