handigarh, January 27, 2022: Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya has congratulated the people of the state as five luminaries of Haryana have been selected for Padma Shri award, one of the high civilian awards presented by the Union Government every year in recognition of one’s distinguished service.
These five luminaries are renowned sports persons Shri Sumit Antil, Shri Neeraj Chopra, Shri Om Prakash Gandhi, Shri Moti Lal Madan and Shri Dr Raghuvendra Tanwar. Their names were announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on January 25, the eve of 73rd Republic Day. “Padma Shri award is a befitting recognition to the distinguished services being done by them in their respective fields,” said Shri Dattatraya.
He said that they have brought rare laurels to the state by virtue of making great contributions to the development of Haryana and the country by doing excellent works in their respective fields. “It is a moment of pride and happiness for the people of Haryana. We should learn from the works of great people and contribute for the betterment of society,” he added.
Shri Dattatraya said that on the eve of Republic Day (January 25), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced the names of 128 Padma Awards. He said that Shri Neeraj Chopra and Shri Sumit Antil have been selected for Padma Shri award for their distinguished service in the field of sports. Panipat’s Neeraj Chopra won a Gold Medal in the javelin throw event at Tokyo Olympics. Sonepat’s Sumit Antil also won the Gold Medal for the country in javelin throw event at Tokyo Paralympics.
Shri Dattatraya said that social worker Shri Om Prakash Gandhi has also been awarded Padma Shri for his social service. Shri Gandhi has done excellent works for the education of girls. Similarly, Dr Raghuvendra Tanwar has been awarded Padma Shri for his outstanding work in the field of education and literature. Shri ML Madan has been awarded Padma Shri in the field of science and engineering. He has successfully worked on animal breeding systems with InVitro Fertilization (IVF) technology.
