Chandigarh, July 6, 2022: Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was a staunch nationalist, versatile lawyer and an intellectual par excellence, who sacrificed his life for the emancipation of the Mother India from the clutches of British Colonial Rule, said Hon’ble Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya while paying tributes to him on his birth anniversary today.
Fully committed to the cause of national unity and integrity, and development of all, Dr Mukherjee was dead against the appeasement of anyone. A firm believer and champion of one nation, one flag and one Constitution, Dr Mukherjee made the supreme sacrifice for the total integration of Kashmir into India, said Shri Dattatraya.
The Governor of Haryana opined that Dr Mukherjee formed Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS) to introduce Bharatiya model of governance which is not only rooted in our cultural values and ethos but is also decentralized with a focus on the holistic empowerment of rural India.
It is the vision of Dr Mukherjee which is being implemented by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji by ensuring all round development of all and appeasement of none. Our true tribute to Dr Mukherjee will be if we follow his vision and ideals and practice them in our lives, said Shri Dattatraya.
He said that Dr Mukherjee was from an extremely well to do family. His father Ashutosh Mukherjee was a judge of the Calcutta High Court. At the age of 33, Dr Mukherjee became the youngest Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University in 1934. It was his sheer urge to serve the nation that he gave up the luxury of life and chose to dedicate his life for the cause of Maa Bharti. A great soul he was indeed, said Shri Dattatraya.
