    Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya has congratulated all players of Haryana for winning medals at the Commonwealth Games held at Birmingham

    Chandigarh, August 9, 2022: Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya has congratulated all players of Haryana for winning medals at the Commonwealth Games held at Birmingham, and has expressed confidence that those who could not win medals this time will certainly emerge victorious in the future competitions. “Our players have won a maximum of 20 medals in the Commonwealth Games. Those who couldn’t, should not be disheartened. Failures are the pillars of success. They will win medals in the future competitions,” said Shri Dattatraya.

    Out of 22 Gold Medals of India, nine Gold medals are in the names of the players of Haryana. Eight women players in individual competition have won medals and nine girls from Haryana were members of the bronze medal winning hockey team. Daughters of Haryana have proved their mettle once again, said Shri Dattatraya.

    The Governor said that the youth of Haryana have taken up sports as a career. The Haryana Government has attracted them towards sports by making a new Sports Policy, which is full of incentives and enabling measures. Haryana has become the country’s sports hub, said the Governor.

    He said that a total of 213 players from India participated in Birmingham Commonwealth Games, out of which 43 players were from Haryana. Talking about the Tokyo Olympics-2020, he said that out of the total seven medals of India, four medals were in the names of the players of Haryana. Similarly, in Tokyo Paralympics-2020, India won a total of 19 medals, out of which six medals were in the names of Haryana players.

    The Governor said that in the Khelo India tournament held in Panchkula recently, Haryana topped the medal tally. For better performance in sports, Governor Shri Dattatraya congratulated the people of the state as well as the Haryana government for giving a fresh impetus to sports in the State.
