Chandigarh, August 13- The prominent traditional festival of Haryana, Teej, was celebrated enthusiastically with all zeal and zest in the premises of Haryana Raj Bhawan, here today.
While greeting the people on this occasion the Governor of Haryana Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki wished that the festival would usher prosperity, progress, happiness and good health in their lives. The Governor announced a reward of Rs. Five lakhs for the participating artistes.
A number of prominent persons including Lady Governor Smt. Rani Solanki, Finance Minister Captain Abhimanu, Food and Supply Minister Karn Dev Kamboj, MLA Gyan Chand Gupta and Latika Sharma, Chief Secretary D.S. Dhesi, Additional Chief Secretary Art and Culture Dheera Khandelwal etc. attended the celebrations.
The colourful festival of Teej was a special attraction, especially for women and children as a number of stalls of bangles and balloons were put up on the occasion. Colourful swings were also another attraction for the participants which were giving a joy ride to them on this occasion.
The audience was regaled by the artistes who presented a number of cultural items projecting the history, culture and life of the people of various states. This variety cultural programme specifically highlighted the cordial relations between the bride and her mother-in-law. Tasteful cuisines including seasonal sweets were also enjoyed by the visitors.
The variety cultural programme included Haryanvi Sawan folk dance Loor, Sambal Puri folk dance of Odisha, Badhai of Madhya Pradesh, Giddha of Punjab, J&K folk dance Roff and Beehu folk dance of Asam. All the dances were based on Teej folk songs that are very often sung by the young women in the month of Savan.
